  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: Voice of Pelham (Pelham, ON)
Entry Title: COVID-19 positive at Fonthill Sobeys
Entry Credit: Dave Burket, John Chick, Don Rickers
Judge Comment: The story of the Pelham councillor/grocery store owner spreading COVID caught the attention of much of locked down Canada. The Voice if Pelham was like a dog with a bone and used their website to advance the story long before the paper was ever printed.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: Peninsula News Review (Sidney, BC)
Entry Title: Mother's Day outing turns into tragedy
Entry Credit: Wolfgang Depner, Peninsula News Review Team
Judge Comment: Good photos and good on the ground work by Woflgang Depner - tighter writing and painting word pictures with the witnesses description early in the story would have made the submission better.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Carleton Place-Almonte Canadian Gazette (AlmonteON
Entry Title: Timeline to a takedown: A manhunt in Carleton Place ends with first degree murder charge
Entry Credit: Hollie Pratt-Campbell, Tara Gesner
Judge Comment: Great work sticking with the story to get the images of the suspect being arrested. To make this story better, there need to be more colour - talking to neighbours, describing the scene more fully.
  • Competition Comment: The winning entries here were not just about being first, but about telling a compelling story - because that after all - is what will stick with the reader.
