  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: The Carillon (Steinbach, MB)
    Entry Title: Sports stories 2020
    Entry Credit: Terry Frey
Judge Comment: An impressive amount of space is dedicated to sports, in-depth features were captiviting and nice use of photography.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: The Macleod Gazette (Fort Macleod, AB)
Entry Title: Alberta calls on Flyer
    Entry Credit: Frank McTighe
Judge Comment: Writer has an engaging approach. A few more action shots would make sports pages even better.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Alberni Valley News (Port Alberni, BC)
    Entry Title: AVNews sports coverage
Entry Credit: Susie Quinn, Elena Rardon
Judge Comment: Enjoyed reviewing this paper. Again, a few more action shots even if they are file photos.
  • Competition Comment: It was difficult to mark down any of the entries as they all had compelling sports packages. It is infortunate that smaller papers cannot dedicate as much space as they would like. Newspapers should take the feature approach more often like these papers. Sometimes it is difficult to find all the right action shots - but keep working on it.
