A strong feature image that makes good use of a panning technique. The image is well-exposed and the pop of red against the backdrop catches the viewer's eye. The blurred background helps separate the in-focus subject and helps to illustrate motion. There was definite thought given to the image thanks to the clean background, composition and use of panning. The headline, subhead and caption all aid in helping to tell the story behind the image. The photo was head and shoulders above the other entries in terms of technicality, creativity and composition, which really cemented it's position as the wining photo.

There is a nice moment captured here that has both news and feature value. The expression on the subject's face is visible and the viewer can get a sense of their excitement. The photo lost some points to some technical issues. The photo is overexposed, the horizon is crooked and the crop is a little tight.

The image has news value and helps illustrate an interesting story. Looking at the picture the viewer is drawn in to find out what is happening. What hurts this image the most is the composition and the way the picture was cropped. The horizon is extremely crooked and the dogs legs are cut off. Besides that the picture is technically strong, the exposure is perfect and the subject is in focus.
Competition Comment:
Over all it was a fairly weak category. There seemed to be little thought and care given to taking the pictures. From a technical, creative and composition stand point the entries failed to make a strong impression. The three photos that placed stood out among the other entries in those categories.
