    Judge Comment: The Herald had excellent reporting on several key community issues such as environmental concerns about a landfill, political coverage, strong editorials and excellent local reporting. It was a strong read, with fantastic relevant stories for readers.

    Contestant Name: Shootin' the Breeze (Pincher Creek, AB)
    Entry Title: Shootin' the Breeze
    Judge Comment: Shootin' the Breeze is well known for it's coverage of the Pincher Creek region and it continued to impress. It had a wide array of community coverage – which is important for any newspaper – while having stories that were interesting regardless if a reader was a local or someone passing through the community. The Remembrance Day coverage was particularly rich in local history.

    Entry Title: The Reporter

    Judge Comment: The Reporter was another excellent example of the impact local news can have on delivering information to residents. Its editorial staff covered a good mixture of news such as politics, police, health stories and it had good editorials and an impressive amount of letters to the editor. It was clear readers care about The Reporter, with editorial staff delivering a superb product.
  • Competition Comment: The entries in this category all had impressive journalism, showcasing the reporting strength from across the country. The newspapers had a strong mixture of compelling stories, good photojournalism and a keen eye for storytelling.
