  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: North Shore News (North/West Vancouver, BC)
Entry Title: Editorial: On North Vancouver supportive housing, there is only one right choice
    Entry Credit: Brent Richter
Judge Comment: Tight structure, good flow, consistent tone, nothing unnecessary. Clear argument, very local, strong opinion. One or two keystone stats would have made it even stronger.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: Clipper Weekly (Beausejour, Oakbank, Lac du Bonnet
Entry Title: Ratepayers In Alexander Deserve Better
    Entry Credit: MARK BUSS
Judge Comment: Solid research and a strong argument with multiple specific examples make for a compelling editorial but a weak "course of action/call-to-action" put this piece into second place based on the provided judging criteria.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: The Lake Report (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON)
Entry Title: Zalepa & Co. acted undemocratically
    Entry Credit: Richard Harley
Judge Comment: This piece reads like a righteous first draft with heart, that never quite got the editing it deserves. The editorial absolutely delivers on impact, but impact through polarization isn’t the same as impact through illumination. Its persuasive power is blunted by emotional excess, lack of nuance, and no real roadmap for readers. Still, an impressive editorial.
