  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: Peace Arch News (Surrey, BC)
Entry Title: Black population in Surrey wants voice in policing transition
    Entry Credit: Sobia Moman
Judge Comment: Excellent reporting, a much-needed added dimension on this topic which received national coverage. Wish the story had more diverse voices.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: DurhamRegion.com
Entry Title: Dad pulls son off soccer field in Pickering after microshocks, EMF concerns
    Entry Credit: Kristen Calis
Judge Comment: Great story, but should have been tackled at greater depth. A story of how one citizen can effectively raise the alarm. Are the other parents not concerned? The story had a compelling feature image that eloquently illustrated the reporting.
  • Competition Comment: A clutch of great entries, all of which provided a local dimension on a national story. Reminded me that local journalism matters and we need to be doubling down on it.
