Contestant Name:
The Lake Report (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON)
Entry Title:
The Lake Report - Sports
Judge Comment:
The Lake Report's layout and presentation of its sports stories was the difference. Starting a sports story the editor deemed important to the community on the front page was a nice touch.

Contestant Name:
Peace Arch News (Surrey, BC)
Entry Title:
Home is where the community sports coverage is
Judge Comment:
The Peach Arch News serves its community well. Good photos and presentation made for a tough choice between the top two entries in this class.

Third Place
Contestant Name:
Nanaimo News Bulletin (Nanaimo, BC)
Entry Title:
Nanaimo News Bulletin
Entry Credit:
Greg Sakaki
Judge Comment:
The Nanaimo News Bulletin does a wonderful job of covering the sports news. The majority of photos were locally-generated, but perhaps could have been ran slightly larger for impact.
Competition Comment:
All entrants featured well-written sports stories that provided readers information on local athletes. The point totals came down to layout and impact of how the stories caught the reader's eye.
The winning entries did have more newspaper-generated photos, rather than those supplied by various sources. I do understand the limitations of sourcing your own photos.
All eight communities are very well served by these newspapers when it comes to their coverage of the local sports scene.
