  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: The Independent of Petrolia and Central Lambton,ON
Entry Title: Upside down in Alvinston
    Entry Credit: Heather Wright
Judge Comment: Congrats to Heather Wright for a perfect photo and an imperfect cutline. Please ensure you follow CP style.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: The World-Spectator (Moosomin, SK)
Entry Title: Steer Riding at the Moose Mountain Pro Rodeo
    Entry Credit: Sunnette Kamffer
Judge Comment: A really great photo by Sunette Kamffer; however, the cutline needs another line and it should be written in sentence form: "Havana Aarsby competes..."
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Citizen (Blyth/Brussels, ON)
Entry Title: The thrill of victory
    Entry Credit: John Stephenson
Judge Comment: A well-played image on front page! Lots of information in the cutline. Good job John!
  • Competition Comment: Congratulations to The Independent, the World-Spectator and The Citizen for their wonderful sports images! The top three captured emotion so well — either as a tumble, a fear of riding an animal or as a team win. A few notes moving forward: 1. Be sure to provide a fulsome cutline that includes the names of the people in the photo, as well as the date, location and reason for snapping. 2. Try not to jam all the photos onto one page (i.e., as a photo essay that confuses the eye). 3. Ensure the cropping is not too tight; give some breathing room for the reader to digest, and for better pagination.
