This was a well argued and researched editorial that highlighted the short sightedness of an issue and how development charges can be a long term problem. An important issue for the community and one that isn't often discussed.
Competition Comment:
This category truly shows newspapers at their best; holding decision makers to account on behalf of their communities. Each of the entries pointed out a real challenge facing a local community, in many cases pointing out a lack of accountability or a bad decision made by those in power. The best ones honed in on a solution. In an age where we are told how cynical everyone is about public discourse it is refreshing to see such passion and emotion about our communities. This category and the entries show how important local news outlets are to democracy and accountability.
