  • Competition Comment: To start with, I commend everyone who entered a story because it takes a lot of work to write agricultural stories. The range of topics was wide and informative. Congratulations to you all. The winners separated themselves from the rest by using multiple sources, effective quotes, and strong story-telling. One of the major areas of improvement is the use of direct quotes. Several entries relied on them to the exclusion of narration and storytelling. Using long direct quotes can be repetitive, and it diminishes the impact of the story. Paraphrasing them increases the impact and sharpens the focus of the story. Overall, the stories were interesting to read and serve their readers well.
