Perfection when it comes to this story, from the words to the artwork used by the St. Albert Gazette ... editor and the staff know how to report and present an important story for the community. Our elders deserve better treatment.

An excellent story brought to the readers in the community by the reporter. And each choice for top-three among the submissions.

'Tuck in ponytails' to avoid dangerous owl encounters
Entry Credit:
Christine van Reeuwyk
Judge Comment:
An interesting story about owl attacks, not your normal newsroom coverage on flying wildlife and the residents of the community being attacked. Something different piqued this judge's interest and reporter's take on the story
Competition Comment:
Some excellent news stories, from politics to daily issues often covered by the daily mainstream media. But nice to see editor's allowing community reporters to tackle these stories, too. Layout and art is important when presenting it to readers. Try full pages, so readers do not have to start on front page, then must go inside to continue reading, If it's important, give it space to stand on its own. The owl attacks made the top-three because it was fresh, and different, and reporter did a great job informing ladies to keep their ponytails covered to avoid being attacked.
