I absolutely loved this story, from the headline on. It was captivating, mysterious, well put together - a great read.
This reader knew after reading the first paragraph that it was a read-to-the-end piece. Excellent work.

Although it took a bit to verify what "floor patterns" were, this story put such a homey touch on the minutia of daily life in a Mennonite community, and it was so lovely to read about. I would love for the installation to visit my hometown!
A really super piece! Fun, informative, great photos - a treat!

Judge Comment:
The closing down of this incredible group of ladies is a sad report on not only the group itself, but the state of volunteerism as a whole.
This reader actually got a little teary while reading this piece, as they sound like a great group. It's also been the only piece in this category to elicit a laugh!
This story will be repeated more often in the future if volunteers don't come forward to continue the "good old days" when neighbour helped neighbour.
Competition Comment:
There were some fabulous tales in this category - honouring the past, work towards truth and reconciliation with Indigenous partners - a real desire by each news outlet to keep the past alive for its readers. And without our past, how do we recognize how to move forward?
